Spend time well
Powis House Estate is a privately owned estate beneath the Ochil Hills, near Stirling. For over 550 years people have gathered, worked and rested here. Today the estate offers self-catering holiday cottages and shepherd huts, exclusive-use wellness and creative retreats, and leadership offsites.
A historic Scottish estate waiting for you
Whilst the Powis Estate dates back to 1480 Powis House that you see today has stood beneath the Ochil Hills since 1746. Ten acres of gardens, woodland and open ground surround two restored Georgian cottages, two handcrafted shepherd huts, a spring-fed lake and a working estate that is still being carefully brought back to life. Whether you come to lead a retreat, gather your leadership team or take a holiday, the estate is here for you for the length of your stay - no timetable except your own.

Time is the point
The best days at Powis are rarely the busiest ones. Breakfast arrives with the morning light, walks turn into conversations, and evenings gather naturally around the table or the fire. The estate does not ask you to do more. It gives you the space to do less, and to do it properly.

Cared for by the people who live here
We are James and Jennifer, and since 2023 we have been the custodians of Powis. In that time the estate has gained a spring fed lake, a solar field, borehole and spring water, new woodland paths and carefully restored interiors. The work continues year on year, and it shows in the small things guests notice first.

Nearly three centuries of time well spent
Masons laid the final stones of the present house in 1746. The estate record dates back to the 1400s and passed through some of Scotland's oldest families. In 1949 it was bought by five remarkable women - teachers, nurses and administrators known locally as the Powis House Ladies - who offered refuge to soldiers and gave the house new life. We are its latest custodians. Read the estate's story →
